Winchester Downs Cluster Group
“Cluster Group” is a term used to define a group of farmers and land managers who have come together to manage their land collectively on a ‘landscape scale’ to benefit the species, habitats and historic features within it.
The primary importance of the Winchester Downs area is its chalk geology – with remnant areas of chalk downland habitat and the wider chalk arable landscape. These habitats support a diversity of important chalk grassland wildflowers, butterflies, farmland birds and arable flora.
The Winchester Downs Cluster Group was set up in 2017 and has made great strides in achieving landscape, habitat and biodiversity benefits on a scale that could not be done by working alone.
